The Original Maple _ #The Original Maple Room, 2014

 

Similar to political matters of history, fiction based on personal history is also a leitmotif in my whimsical installations, when the artist is playing the role of an archivist. In my project The Original Maple, in which I initiated from being deceived to purchase ‘faux’ maple frames from online, I started exploring our perception of the originality of mundane object, such as ‘maple.’ In this project, I pinpointed the nexus of fact and fiction, personal and general ideas of the subject ‘maple.’ To narrate imaginary histories of each elements, I meticulously archived and created myriad layers of myth, a fictional letter of a young widow based on family history, double-sided prints mounted in both veneer and genuine maple frames, murals, a collection of solar-panels and raindrops for a funeral of golden-winged-seeds, allegories, poetry, and even a video game—all that claims to be the story of The Original Maple.
